Catalogue question 276 · Question catalogue in force since 2024-07-01

What should you do if you are treated badly by your contact person at a German authority?

Why — for every option

  1. A — There are indeed options for action against misconduct by public officials.
  2. B — One does not have to accept inappropriate behaviour without objection; there are avenues for complaint.
  3. C — Threats are themselves a criminal offence (§ 241 Criminal Code) and not an appropriate or legal response.
  4. D — Correct: citizens can, informally or formally, complain to the superior office or head of the authority about misconduct; this is a recognised right.
