German citizenship test Baden-Württemberg — the 10 state questions explained

If you sit the test in Baden-Württemberg, three of your 33 questions come from exactly these ten. The other 30 are federal. Questions from other states will not appear in your test.

Baden-Württemberg is the only state existing today that was assembled by referendum, when three post-war entities — Baden, Württemberg-Baden and Württemberg-Hohenzollern — were merged in 1952. The south-west reaches from the Black Forest, where the Danube rises, down to Lake Constance, meeting France and Switzerland on the way. The three black lions on its shield come from the Hohenstaufen dynasty.

What to know about this state

In the south-west, naturalisation applications go to the lower administrative authorities — depending on where you live, the district office, the administration of a large district town, or the mayoral office of an urban district. The ten state questions return strikingly often to the 1952 referendum and to the three predecessor states.
