What is permitted at Bundestag and Landtag elections in Germany?
- A husband votes on behalf of his wife too.
- You can cast your vote by postal ballot. Correct
- You can cast your vote by phone on election day.
- Children from the age of 14 may vote.
Why — for every option
- A — Voting on someone else's behalf is forbidden — the right to vote is strictly personal (exception: an assistant for someone with a disability, who only provides technical support and does not decide themselves).
- B — Correct: postal voting (§ 36 Federal Elections Act) is a permitted, and in practice very commonly used, way to cast a vote without appearing in person at the polling station.
- C — Voting by phone is not permitted, for reasons of ballot secrecy and protection against fraud.
- D — The minimum voting age for Bundestag and most Landtag elections is 18, not 14.
